App: Messages (package com.securesms.messagebox.textsms.messaging)

This policy explains what information the Messages app ("the app") uses, why it uses it, and the choices you have. The app is published by Mountain Pixel ("we", "us"). If you have any question, write to mountainpixel@gmail.com.
1. Summary

Your SMS and MMS messages, your contacts and your backups stay on your device. We do not upload them to our servers and we do not sell them.
The app shows ads and uses analytics, crash reporting and push notification services from third parties. These services receive technical and usage information, described below.
You can remove all data kept by the app by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.

2. Information the app uses on your device
Information    Why the app needs it    Where it goes

The app includes the following services. They collect information automatically and handle it under their own privacy policies.

The app also contacts our own servers:

    to download its ad settings and to count installs. These requests contain only the app's package name;
to register for push notifications. This request contains the push token given to the app by Firebase Cloud Messaging, and, when you open a notification, the fact that it was opened.

If you use web search from the home screen, the words you type are sent to Google Search and the results open in your browser.

The feed on the home screen loads news headlines from public RSS sources. When you open a headline, it opens on the publisher's website, which has its own privacy policy.
4. How the information is used

To provide the messaging features you use.
To show ads, including personalised ads where you have agreed to them.
To measure usage, fix crashes and improve the app.
    To send you notifications.

We do not use the content of your messages or your contacts for advertising or analytics.
5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only with the service providers listed in section 3, and when the law requires it.
6. Your choices

Permissions: you can allow or deny each permission in your device settings. Some features will not work without the related permission.
Default messaging app: you can choose another default SMS app at any time in your device settings.
Home screen: you can choose another home screen app at any time in your device settings.
Ads: you can reset or delete your advertising ID and turn off ad personalisation in your device's Google settings. Where required, the app asks for your consent and you can change it later.
Notifications: you can turn them off in the app or in your device settings.
Delete data: clear the app's storage or uninstall the app to remove the data it keeps on your device. To ask about data held by the third-party services, write to us at the address above.

8. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
